It's been just over a week since my satelite radio trial expired. Determined not to renew until later this fall, my iPod is now sweating bullets daily. This weekend I decided to turn on the AM/FM radio while running some errands. (NOTE: I haven't listened to local radio in 2-3years). I was dissapointed to discover the station lineup has changed little, if any, over the years.
I find myself asking...
- Does embracing new technology dishonor the past in some way?
- Will suburban radio die out like the 8-track, the cassette tape, and now the compact disc?
- If so, will the last remaining radio stations represent the core culture and community of radio's history, like vinyl records still being produced and consumed in the face digital progress?
